According to the Eindhovens Dagblad, Philips plans to cut more than 1,000 jobs in the company’s healthcare technology department on Monday.
The Eindhovens Dagblad thinks it already knows that Philips will announce a large round of layoffs next Monday. Philips itself does not want to confirm the news yet. On Monday, CEO Roy Jakobs is expected to speak for the presentation of the annual figures. There he would explain more about the planned restructuring. This is necessary because Philips has booked a loss of 1.5 billion euros in the past year.
Philips wants to ensure the future
The Dutch trade union De Unie has already responded to the strong suspicions towards the editors of nu.nl: “Our staff has not yet been informed about this and we do not know anything about the possible numbers. We have no information about that,” said driver Suat Koetloe to the news site.
Also last year, in October, Philips already put 4,000 jobs at risk. When the previous round of layoffs was announced, Jakobs also stated in the same breath that a new plan would follow “to ensure the future of Philips”. Next Monday we would already hear more about the plans of the electronics giant for the coming years.
