Do you want to do battle in a video game with your relatives or strangers online, but rather in hand-to-hand combat, without a firearm? Here are 5 fighting games included with PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions that feature one-on-one martial arts.
Dragon Ball FighterZ | PS4
Freshly arrived in the Extra and Premium catalog, the famous Arc System Works game published by Bandai Namco pays tribute since its release in 2018 to the no less famous Dragon Ball universe, under the supervision of its author in person, Akira Toriyama. If the graphics and animation speak for themselves, there is a – very – large number of characters on the roster, as well as many cult scenes from different anime and of course a story and an original character, C-21 , an android of Dr. Gero created especially for the game, again by Mr. Toriyama himself. The result: 3v3 fights that often go out of the way for show and combo purposes. Expect to be amazed while enjoying gameplay that is both demanding and accessible.
Injustice 2 | PS4
Another famous universe, that of DC Comics, on a typical gameplay Mortal Kombat dear to its developer, NetherRealm. Published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in 2017, this second part also has a lot of additional content to download. Among the strong points of the game, besides again a huge selection of characters in which your favorites necessarily appear, their customization and their equipment allows them to progress and evolve for ever more power and originality. In this episode, Batman falls out with Superman, for a change, when – guess what – it’s not the best time… with Earth in danger. Old pots, winning team, etc.
Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 | PS4
Another little-known franchise and another Bandai Namco edition, developed by Cyberconnect2, this opus was released in 2016, a year before the end of the Shippuden anime in Japan, which gives it a complete roster with all the characters from the series – or almost. On the menu of appreciable points, let’s also mention the change of character on the fly or the use of scenery to your advantage. A bit like DB FighterZ, the majority of the arcs being completed, the game has a good number of cult winks that will naturally appeal to fans. The show (and the QTEs) are also part of it, especially in story mode, where the village of Konoha awaits you as it should to become the best Hokage. If you don’t know what it is, freak out, it works too.
SoulCalibur VI | PS4
Bandai Namco always, the 6th opus of the Versus fighting franchise which puts the edged weapons in the spotlight had to appear both in the catalog of Extra games, and in this selection. Another respected tradition of the franchise: the surprise guest. Among the usual colorful characters at your disposal, the “guest star” on the cover is called Geralt De Riv, which has left the universe of The Witcher aside for the moment, the time to check if 2B of NieR:Automata (in DLC) was up to the two newcomers Grøh and Azwel, included as basic as the famous family in the names of Mitsurugi, Sophitia, Nightmare, Xianghua, Kilik, Ivy, Zasalamel, Siegfried, Taki, Yoshimitsu, Maxi, Talim, Voldo, Astaroth, Seong Mi-na, Cervantes or Raphael. If these names do not speak to you, you are still in the right place.
Fighting EX Layer | PS4
Japanese studio a little less famous for the uninitiated, Arika is still at the origin of classics like Excitebike in 1986 or more recently Tetris and Pac-Man in “99” mode. But the developer is also known for its 1999 fighting game, named Fighting Layer. A little later, Arika imagines a cross between his game and Street Fighter EX, in a joking tone. It was without counting on the fans. Their voice will give birth, in 2018, to this real fighting game playable online or offline. If the roster also remains confidential and therefore to be discovered, special mention to Skullo Mania or to a certain Terry Bogard. Paradoxically a little mocked when it was released, this game, however constantly updated (the last named “1.5.5” dating from June 2022) offers, apart from its own physics, a game experience close to SFIV and others SFV or even current SamSho: gameplay on a 2D line with characters whose modeling does not have to be ashamed either. Your turn to judge.
