01/27/2023 at 11:41 a.m. by Thilo Bayer – The release date for Pharaoh: A New Era on Steam is set: The modernized new edition of the city-building classic Pharaoh from 1999 will be released in just a few weeks.
Development games on the PC remain in trend. PCGH had already reported on a new edition of the genre classic Pharaoh, which was originally published by Sierra in 1999 and is a mix of economic and city-building simulation.
Release already on 15.2.
Pharaoh: A New Era from Triskell Interactive studio and publisher Dotemu is the modernized re-imagining of the 1999 classic Pharaoh, featuring 50 missions and over 100 hours of gameplay. The expansion Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile is also included. The developers even took the original soundtrack as a basis and rearranged it with “traditional oriental instruments”. The release date has now been confirmed for 2/15/23. A campaign with six different periods is included, as well as a “free build mode”. The planned map editor will not be ready until the release, but will be delivered as an update. Participation in the Steam Fest last year provided valuable feedback that the developers were able to implement.

The game principle remains the same as in the original. The player has to build his city piece by piece and manage all further development. Only in this way can he become rich enough to rise to become a powerful and revered pharaoh. You juggle many tasks to ensure that the city also grows and prospers. These include elements such as economy, domestic and foreign trade, culture, health, agriculture, education, as well as the flooding of the Nile and the biblical plagues of Egypt.
The graphics of the new edition have been adapted to modern standards and the isometric 2D perspective including buildings and units is now presented in Ultra HD. The game mechanics have also been modernized. As an Egyptian city builder, the player must cultivate the fertile land on the banks of the Nile Valley. Of course, monuments of ancient Egypt such as pyramids, the Sphinx or the lighthouse of Alexandria also want to be erected. The player must also manage the city’s healthcare, culture and religion.
