The series of The Last of Us hit like a bomb with its first two episodes. So it’s no wonder that the US broadcaster HBO has now confirmed a second season quite early.
Two episodes of “The Last of Us” were broadcast via HBO and in Germany via Sky/WOW – and they were completely convincing. The new series based on the PlayStation blockbuster from Naughty Dog is also very popular on IMDb with a current rating of 9.3/10 from over 95,000 votes and is one of the best-rated series of all.
In this respect, a second season is actually only logical, right? That’s what the US broadcaster HBO thought, which now officially confirms this at a very early stage. At the start of the weekend, it was announced that there would be a second season of “The Last of Us”.
“I’m so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I’m even more grateful to the millions of people who have been with us on this journey. This audience has given us a chance to move on – and as a fan of the characters and the world that Neil and Naughty Dog have created, I couldn’t be more ready to delve deeper into it,” executive producer Craig Mazin said on the announcement.
According to HBO, the first season, which picks up on the events of the first video game from 2013, marked the second-biggest launch of a series by the network and is only beaten by the Game of Thrones spin-off “House of the Dragon”. . The now confirmed second season could pick up the plot of the sequel The Last of Us: Part II from 2020. Since Mazin has previously stated that the game sequel will probably take longer than just one season in a possible TV adaptation, it is logical that a third season might not be bad at all.
