Dread Templar sees itself as a fast-paced old-school shooter for single players that combines elements from classic shooters from the 90s with features from modern genre representatives. True to style, a driving hardcore and metal soundtrack is also offered, while a variety of weapon upgrades and abilities can be playfully combined to create your own style of play.
The campaign of the title from the indie development studio T19 Games extends over 25 huge levels with hidden side areas, secret locations and puzzles, where unlockable objects also await the player. You shoot your way through hordes of varied demons and henchmen from hell with over ten boss fights, while a multiplayer mode is not on board.
Dread Templar on Steam: Very good ratings
With the end of the early access phase, there are currently over 450 reviews on Steam for the new old-school shooter after the recent publication of the release version, which are very positive at an average of 93 percent. The gameplay and the presentation are usually praised, while it is only occasionally perceived as repetitive or unattractive. On Metacritic.com, there are at least four reviews from specialist sites with an average Metascore of a respectable 80 points.

In keeping with the game’s retro-looking pixel graphics, the system requirements for PCs with at least a Geforce GTX 560 and CPU with more than 2.5 GHz, 4 GiB RAM and 2 GiB storage space under Windows 7 64-bit are extremely frugal. Until February 2nd, Dread Templar can still be purchased as an introductory offer with a 15 percent discount for 16.99 euros instead of 19.99 euros on Steam.
