At second glance, a black widow and a bat have more in common than you might think. Both act precisely and quickly when eliminating their opponents, but have to do without super powers. Both Batman and Black Widow can’t afford to dress like superheroes in brightly colored costumes like their DC and Marvel counterparts, respectively. Instead, in addition to their muscles and some technology, they mainly use their minds and are therefore considered fan favorites. As has now apparently been leaked, a Marvel blockbuster planned for 2024 turns out to be a sequel to the Marvel’s Black Widow movie.
Marvel’s Black Widow: Sequel is in theaters
The theatrical release of Marvel’s Black Widow was associated with all sorts of quarrels. With the coronavirus pandemic raging around the world in 2021, the Marvel’s Avengers spin-off was released at the same time on the Disney Plus streaming service. This led to protests from numerous cinema operators and some cinemas in Germany boycotted the new Marvel film.
Since, as expected, the box office revenue fell due to the simultaneous release of Black Widow on Disney Plus, leading actress Scarlett Johansson sued Disney for lost profit sharing. However, the legal dispute was settled. Nevertheless, the sequel to Marvel’s Black Widow has to do without the main actress.
Marvel blockbuster still gets a sequel, but the main actress is missing
The successor to Marvel’s Black Widow is said to be Thunderbolts. Similar to its competitor DC and the Suicide Squad, the Marvel cinematic film planned for 2024 focuses on an association of former villains and shady characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Led by the Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes, who once ignited a “civil war” between Captain America and Iron Man, some characters from Black Widow are also said to be at the start.

In Thunderbolts, not only will Black Widow’s sister and father return to the big screen with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Red Guardian (David Habour from Stranger Things), Taskmaster and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will also be seen. Thus, at least four characters from Black Widow play in the anti-superhero blockbuster.

As Andy Park, Marvel’s director of visual development, announced in a post on Instagram, Thunderbolts will be the successor to Black Widow. He literally wrote that the film was “a sequel to Black Widow”. A short time later, however, the Instagram post was edited. In the meantime, there is only talk that the two films are somehow connected. So we will most likely find out what happens to the super agent’s family after the events of Black Widow. Unfortunately without Scarlett Johansson. When is Marvel’s Thunderbolts in theaters? The new Marvel blockbuster is scheduled to start in Germany on July 25, 2024.
