Insider Gaming, citing its sources, claims that two new games in the Far Cry series are in development. One of them is a classic sequel (Far Cry 7) and the other one will be multiplayer.

There are not many project details yet. It was originally just one game. The project was known as Project Talisker and was led by Dan Hay. But then he left for Blizzard Entertainment, and then it was decided to split the game into two separate ones. Far Cry 7 is now codenamed Project Blackbird and the multiplayer game is now Project Maverick. People from Ubisoft Montreal are working on both projects.
According to Insider Gaming sources, Project Maverick has changed several times over the past year. Currently set in the Alaskan desert, the game is a loot shooter with perma-death, contracts, and a backpack system. The publication was also provided with a screenshot of the project, which contains chests with loot and evacuation zones.
Interestingly, back in 2015, Ubisoft conducted a survey among players about the location of the next Far Cry. One of the options was just Alaska with an emphasis on extreme survival in nature.
Much less is known about Far Cry 7. Estimated release date is fall 2025. But the publisher can move it if needed. Insider Gaming believes that Alaska could also be the setting for the main series game, since it was originally a single project.
Insider Gaming requested Ubisoft’s comment on the leak, to which the publisher replied, “We don’t comment on rumors or speculation.”
