The Tomb Raider franchise is set to be revived and grow into a connected universe comparable to Marvel. This is reported by sources from The Hollywood Reporter.
Over the weekend we reported that Tomb Raider, directed by Amazon to become a TV series. However, it seems that the plans are more advanced. The Hollywood Reporter reports that there are efforts to expand the entire universe, with more games and films being produced alongside the aforementioned TV series.
The idea is to make Tomb Raider a cohesive world where the video game, TV series, and film are linked in a similar way that Marvel has achieved.
Another Tomb Raider video game is no longer a secret, at least. It was confirmed in December last year. But loud The Hollywood Reporter more games are considered likely.
One of Amazon’s biggest commitments
The package is one of Amazon’s biggest commitments after the company is estimated to have some rights to ‘Lord of the Rings’, according to a source familiar with the matter $250 million put on the table. The latter deal includes a multi-hour series called The Rings of Power and spinoffs.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is set to write the screenplay for the TV series, among other things, is not involved in the next film or game. She is said to be a big fan of the franchise and was eager to work on the series. Her involvement stems from her recently renewed overall deal with Amazon.
Tomb Raider was co-developed with Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montréal and mobile developer Square Enix Montréal to the Embracer Group for around $300 million sold. The previous owner Square Enix justified the deal with a strengthening of the core business, which should also lead to a realignment of the in-house portfolio.
