Barcelona head coach Xavi commented on the 1-0 victory over Girona Viktor Tsygankov:
“We expected Girona to press us higher, but that was not the case. I was surprised that the opponents slightly changed their usual style – we had a lot of possession of the ball, created a sufficient number of chances, but I can’t say that we played well. We need to be bolder in attack, we need to improve – and the first half hour in the second half was very good. Sometimes we have to deviate from the script, fight quite a lot before we create a scoring chance, endure fouls on the flanks or crosses.
In general, I am satisfied with three points, although we must be self-critical. I want to win 4-0, but we have to take into account the fact that compared to last year we have had big changes – both the team and the players have changed. They don’t always have confidence, sometimes they don’t have it, but we are in a good moment and that makes me happy. I understand that we are on the way to improving our game.”
