After some games that were actually announced for 2022 had to be postponed last year and the Xbox was otherwise rather stingy with new first-party games, Phil Spencer now admits in an interview that he too would have wished for more games. With Starfield, Redfall, Forza Motorsport or Fable, the Xbox would have actually had popular games, but none of them were released in 2022. However, the Xbox CEO promises that the situation will improve in 2023. There are always new features for the Xbox. For example, a new power-saving mode was recently introduced. The only thing missing is the really big games.
“We didn’t deliver enough in 2022”
In an interview with IGN, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft’s Xbox division, speaks quite openly about the mistakes that have been made over the past year. Not enough new games would have been released and there was nothing to be seen of the big triple-A exclusives like Starfield or Redfall.
“Our commitment to our fans is that we should keep releasing great games for people to play on our platform, and we certainly haven’t delivered enough of them in 2022.”
However, Spencer immediately stirs the advertising drums for the coming year 2023: Then everything should change and the entire Xbox team is therefore very committed. This year is one of a series of games that the company “feels really good about.”

A few days ago the Xbox Developer Direct took place, where there was a lot of new information about games for the Xbox, including release dates. In addition to Redfall, Minecraft Legends and Forza Motorsport, there was also a big surprise: With Hi-Fi Rush, a game was announced that was released in Game Pass on the same day.
However, the long-awaited Starfield from Bethesda was not shown. Nevertheless, Spencer is sure: “I felt really good about the games that we showed. And then also knowing that Starfield is a game that we highlight in our own show and then just start 2023 with a lot of momentum be able”.
The Xbox boss is also happy about the decision to always name a release date in addition to a lot of new information about the games shown: “To show great games, to show the gameplay for these games and to name specific release dates , I think that was important so early this year”.
