On January 30, 2023, Mozilla releases a minor corrective update to Firefox 109.0.1
The new version of Firefox 109.0.1 includes fixes for four different issues, including rendering violations on some Windows devices and an authentication error in enterprise environments.
Firefox 109.0.1 will be released during the day, January 30, 2023. The update will be automatically installed on supported desktop OSes. Firefox users can go to Menu > Help > About Firefox to manually check for updates. The browser will download the new version and install it immediately.
Firefox 109.0.1: What’s New
Firefox 109.0.1 fixes font rendering issues affecting certain Windows configurations affecting Firefox 109 and later. Mozilla has attempted to improve the rendering of DirectWrite fonts on Windows, but the changes presented seem to have an undesirable side effect for some configurations. In Firefox 109.0.1, the previous behavior has been restored.
The second issue that was fixed was causing the browser to freeze on pages with lots of emoji.
The third issue was causing authentication failures in organizations using corporate proxies with Kerberos authentication. Firefox has been experiencing issues with embedded iframe content on Kerberos-authenticated pages. According to the bug report, Firefox will not send authentication for iframe content, but only for the first part of the page.
The fourth and final fix resolves an inconsistency in the size of the event listener flags in the Inspector. The size of the checkboxes in this developer tool has changed in the new version of Firefox.
Firefox users affected by one of these issues are advised to install the update as soon as possible.
The next major release of Firefox 110 is scheduled for February 14, 2023. All 109.0.1 fixes will also be included in this release.
