Crystal Dynamics announced earlier this month that support for the multiplayer title Marvel’s Avengers will end this summer. Only shortly after this announcement, part of the community began to petition for a successor.
Following the rumors that reached us a few months ago, Crystal Dynamics developers announced a few days ago that support for the multiplayer title Marvel’s Avengers will end on September 30, 2023.
On the same day, digital sales of the game will also end, with the single and multiplayer modes remaining intact. The last update will be available on March 31, 2023. Shortly after the official announcement that support for “Marvel’s Avengers” would end, players banded together to campaign for a sequel.
The result is a petition to convince Crystal Dynamics and Embracer Group of a sequel to Marvel’s Avengers. As part of the description of the petition, the players not only took the opportunity to say thank you for their time with superhero adventures.
Users name possible monetization concepts
At the same time, possible measures were mentioned with which a possible successor to “Marvel’s Avengers” could become a commercial success. For example, users suggest a subscription model that could replace the current system. “The idea of monetizing only cosmetic content was wonderful for consumers, but not ideal for businesses. Perhaps a subscription model where annual members get early access to content, cosmetics, and other perks.”
According to the petition, a possible battle pass system could also ensure that a potential sequel is economically worthwhile. “Another successful model would be a Battle Pass model, where players can purchase a seasonal Battle Pass. Players could earn additional resources, exclusive emotes, extractors and costumes.
“If you want the live service model to be successful then the plans need to be more concrete upfront, Year 1 and ideally Year 2 should be articulated at the point of sale. We know that firm promises are difficult and numerous variables make such guarantees difficult to deliver. However, trust is likely to increase a consumer’s willingness to invest in a product.
