At a press event, filmmaker James Gunn (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) and producer Peter Safran revealed details about their reboot of the DC Universe revolving around Superman, Batman & Co. After Black Adam and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was unable to turn the tide of the DC Extended Universe at the box office, the company was forced to act. So old habits were cut off and the former wrestler, Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman were kicked out. With the DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters you dare a completely new beginning. And Batman will play a major role in that.
New DCU: What’s Happening to The Batman 2 and Joker 2?
The reboot of the DC cinema universe DCU has officially begun. In addition to the name and planned theatrical release of the new Superman film, filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran also commented on Batman’s future. As expected, Ben Affleck as DCEU’s Batman and a member of Zack Snyder’s Justice League seems to be history.
Things are different with Robert Pattinson’s Batman. While not intended to be included in the official canon of the new DCU, it will be retained as an alternate reality project. Director Matt Reeves gets the opportunity to complete his planned trilogy. That seems logical since The Batman 2022 was a huge success. Incidentally, the successor already has a start date: The Batman 2 is scheduled to start in German cinemas on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025.

The successor to the immensely successful Joker (2020) is said to be a musical. The theatrical release in Germany is planned for Thursday, October 03, 2024.

But the official DCU will also get its own Batman after the reboot. This is probably a more mature version of the popular hero. The movie starring the new Batman will be called The Brave and the Bold and will be part of the DCU Chapter One: God and Monsters. First story details were also revealed. In The Brave and the Bold, Bruce Wanye will train his son Damien Wayne to be his successor as Robin at his side.
