The Frostbite game engine, well known to players from the Battlefield series, first began to be actively used after 2008 in many games released by Electronic Arts. The remake of Dead Space, which currently uses its most advanced version, was no exception. The developers of the updated horror from the studio EA Motive admitted in a recent interview that the new Dead Space required major improvements in the capabilities of Frostbite.
According to the creators of the remake, in terms of visual capabilities, Frostbite is perfect for modern games, allowing you to use the most advanced graphics technologies. The main problem of the engine is its limitations in some places, which especially interfered during the development of the new Dead Space. At some point, EA Motive decided to significantly upgrade the functionality of Frostbite by inviting additional specialists to the team.
The developers have tried to adapt Frostbite to the needs of the updated version of the horror. To recreate the ship’s seamless feel, dark atmosphere, and detailed monster dismemberment system, they needed to make a lot of improvements and add new features. The process was quite time-consuming, but now the authors of the remake are confident that the result has fully met the expectations of the fans.
The Dead Space remake is now available to play on PC and consoles. An improved version of Frostbite may reappear in other games from Electronic Arts or be used for the next game in the Dead Space series.
