Filmmaker James Gunn (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) and producer Peter Safran have officially initiated the reboot of the cinema universe of Marvel competitor DC. During a press event, the two gave detailed information about the numerous upcoming projects of the so-called DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. So the name and the theatrical release of the new Superman film was revealed. They also surprised with a new Batman, who will have a son in the planned movie The Brave and the Bold. But they also commented on the recent events surrounding Henry Cavill, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and the other “sawn” actors of the former DCEU.
New DCU: What’s next for the old heroes?
Similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the new DCU is intended to be a conglomeration of films and series that are all interlinked. The actors of the TV adaptations should also play their heroes in the cinema and vice versa. The DCU is supposed to be a reboot, but James Gunn and Peter Safran leave the door wide open for the former actors.
The director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy promises that The Flash, starring the controversial Ezra Miller, will be one of the best superhero films of all time. He also assumes that Aquaman, the second part of which is due to be released in cinemas at the end of 2023, is designed as a trilogy. James Gunn sees no reason Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) or Zachary Levi (Captain Marvel in Shazam) couldn’t be part of the DCU. However, in response to the rumors that Jason Momoa could be taking on the role of anti-hero Lobo, he clarified that no actor will be taking on two different roles in the new DCU.
New DCU: Henry Cavill wasn’t kicked out
Filmmaker James Gunn went into more detail about Henry Cavill. “We didn’t fire Henry, he just never got hired,” clarifies DC’s new strongman. “He had a cameo appearance, but nothing more.” It’s all about who the filmmakers want in the lead roles, James Gunn continues.

For him it is clear that there will be no return for Henry Cavill as Superman. “I like Henry, he’s a great guy,” James Gunn praised the British actor. “I also don’t think he was treated fairly by some people, including at DC. But for a variety of reasons, Henry won’t be my Superman,” James Gunn said unequivocally. After the filmmaker’s cat was recently disparaged by angry fans, the filmmaker apparently wants to end the discussions about Henry Cavill as Superman once and for all with this clear statement.
