The profile resource DOU.UA has published the third study of the winter cycle on the salaries of Ukrainian IT specialists. The previous two reports dealt with the level of wages of IT developers and testers in Ukraine. The authors collected and analyzed 4179 questionnaires from RM, HR, DevOps, analysts, Data Scientists, designers, and other technical and non-technical professionals. We have selected the main figures and theses of this study.

IT specialists are gradually returning to Kyiv and the region: in the summer 33% of specialists lived here, now – 43%. IT people are also returning to other millionaires. In the Dnieper and the region now live 7% against 6% in the summer, in Odessa and the region – 4% against 3% in the summer, in Kharkiv – 3% against 2% in the summer. Mostly those who returned were those who, due to the war, sought refuge in the western regions. Six months ago, 21% of specialists were in Lviv and the region, today – 19%. The share of IT specialists in the Ivano-Frankivsk region decreased from 5% to 4%.
As with testers, the number of experienced ones among other IT specialists has decreased: in the summer of 2022, 43% of them had a Senior + level, and now it is 39%. In particular, there are 13% fewer Senior+ sales and security specialists.

At the same time, the share of newcomers has hardly changed: if a year ago there were 10% of specialists with less than a year of experience, now they are 9%. Most often in 2022, IT specialists started their careers in sales (30% of them have less than a year of experience), HTML coders (25%), Customer Success (23%) and Game Developers (18%).
The most common specializations of Ukrainian IT after developers and testers are project management specialists (they make up 6% of all respondents), HR / recruiters, designers and analysts (4% each), DevOps / SRE (3%).
Average salaries: dynamics
Product Manager salaries returned to the level of December last year ($3,500, $700). And the average salary of Project Manager has increased a little ($2100, $100).
After a significant drop in the summer of 2022, Data Scientists salaries have somewhat leveled off ($2500, +$200). The salaries of designers have increased by this much ($1,700, $200).
Salaries for business analysts and data analysts decreased by $100.
Average salaries: by position
Average salaries changed significantly in the second half of the year. The highest salaries are for C-level executives: CTO ($6650, +$1650 for half a year), Director of Engineering ($6500, +$375 for half a year), which corresponds to the salary level of System Architects ($6500). Slightly lower CEO salaries: $4,500 (-$500). These specialists often work in small companies, so their median salaries are lower than those of CTOs and Directors of Engineering.
Traditionally, high salaries are given to managers of large projects: Program Manager ($5,000, +$500 for half a year), Delivery Manager ($4,500, unchanged). The median salary of a Product Manager returned to last year’s value ($3,500, +$700), while that of a Product Owner decreased by $500, to $3,000.
The average salary for SRE specialists has returned to last year’s level ($4,122, -$578 for half a year), but remains one of the highest among all specializations.
Salaries of specialists in Data Science and Machine Learning are growing. The median salary of a Data/Big Data Engineer has been increasing throughout 2022 (now $3,650, +$850 for half a year). Salaries at Machine Learning also grew in both the first and second half of 2022 ($2900, +$100 for half a year). At Data Science, they slightly increased after falling in the first half of the year ($2500, +$200).
Data analyst salaries, on the contrary, decreased slightly in the second half of the year: Business Analyst ($2250, -$100), Data Analyst ($1500, -$100). They also significantly decreased for sales specialists ($1000, -$300).
