As confirmed last year, E3 is set to make a comeback in 2023 after the COVID-19 pandemic. According to current reports, in addition to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo will also forego an appearance at E3 2023.
While the E3 was still taking place in the form of a three-day online event in 2021 due to the effects of the COVID-19 crisis, the organizers decided last year to cancel the trade fair completely.
This year, however, E3 is finally set to return – traditionally in June and with a new partner. According to current reports, however, the sense of the comeback of what was once the most important video game fair in the world could already be in the offing. As the colleagues from IGN report, citing sources familiar with the situation, neither Sony Interactive Entertainment nor Microsoft or Nintendo will be part of the E3.
This should emerge from the list of exhibitors, which has not yet been made public. If the reports come true, it would certainly be a heavy blow for the organizers of the E3, since in the past it was mainly the press conferences of the console manufacturers that made the show so attractive.
Fair will return with a new concept
In addition, the renunciation of PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo should raise the question of the support of other heavyweights such as Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts or Take-Two Interactive. As those responsible for the Entertainment Software Association (ESA for short) announced last July, E3 will return this year with a new concept and a new partner.
We are talking about the event production company ReedPop, which has already realized events such as PAX, the Star Wars Celebration and other conventions in the past. This year, the E3 will not take place as a pure face-to-face event, but instead will offer a mixture of show floor and digital events.
