Somehow the whole situation is not really clear. PlayStation VR 2 pre-orders aren’t doing too well, according to a Bloomberg report yesterday. Accordingly, Sony is said to have reduced the production of VR glasses. Now the company itself takes a position and rejects the allegations.
It wasn’t long in coming: just yesterday, a Bloomberg report came out that pre-orders for the PlayStation VR 2 aren’t doing too well. As a result, Sony lowered expectations from 2 million units sold to 1 million copies sold. The production volume was reduced accordingly. Normally, the information from Bloomberg turns out to be correct, but Sony now clearly contradicts the statements.

The company told GamesIndustry that production is continuing as planned. The statement said it was seeing “Playstation fans’ enthusiasm for the upcoming launch, which includes more than 30 titles including Gran Turismo 7, Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil 7.” Elegant how Sony builds the start games into the statement. Either way, as an early adopter, you shouldn’t get bored.
So we can continue to be excited about what exactly awaits us on February 22, 2023. The PlayStation VR 2 is unlikely to set a box office record, as the price of the glasses is too high for that. At 599.99 euros, the device is really not a snapper. Especially since you absolutely have to own a PlayStation 5 in order to use it. Sony has repeatedly emphasized that the availability of the console should be significantly better. It’s about time, a whopping two years after the release.
