Almost four years after Drum ’n’ Fun! Bandai Namco is again putting a switch part of its moody drumming on the market, but again with a small catch: In Germany there is officially only the large set including drum controller exclusively at Amazon.de. If you only want the game, you should look around in other PEGI countries or at resourceful retailers – or just buy the download version. Because even with buttons or touch screen makes Taiko no Tatsujin lots of fun, only the Joy-Con wobble feels imprecise this time too.
As usual, it’s all about hitting the red and blue note symbols exactly, while the basic range features over 80 Japanese feel-good songs from the speakers. In obligatory single rounds or online duels, you gradually unlock chapters of a somewhat simple but nice story and decorations for your character. The party mini-games of the predecessor have been disposed of, but there is now a band mode in which four players or AI assistants drum music tracks together, and the “toy fight”, which makes the events more strategic with a pinch of tactics.
