There is a new chapter in the story between Activision and Microsoft. The marriage between the publisher of Call of Duty and the producers of Xbox, still far from being celebrated, however, has collected some timid yes. According to the latest report by Seeking Alpha, these were provided by some Chinese developers who, when asked about the matter by the local authorities, would not have expressed any unfavorable or critical points to discourage the merger.
As reported by the Seeking Alpha portal, for Chinese developers the 69 billion dollar deal will not have negative consequences for their territory. This is all due to the fact that Activision’s Chinese market isn’t the most lucrative there. This favorable opinion could thus increase the chances of completing the Activision and Microsoft agreement in China. The Asian antitrust body, however, has not yet expressed any opinion having opted for an inspection that will follow the normal timescales rather than a rapid review as requested by Microsoft.
At the moment there are three antitrust agencies that have expressed a favorable opinion: the Brazilian CADE, the Chilean antitrust and the Saudi Arabian body. Towards the green light also the CMA UK which, however, will express a definitive opinion later. The response from the European authority remains uncertain.
However, among the major opponents is the FTC whose opinion, more than anyone else, risks influencing the others. With the Federal Trade Commission, Microsoft has a court date. The Redmond company, however, specifies that it does not agree with this choice. In a document sent to the FTC, the house of Xbox recognizes alleged violations of the fifth amendment of the US constitution. Microsoft points out that, in their opinion, the FTC has not taken into account the proposals of Sony PlayStation on Call of Duty in its considerations. However, the accusations made by Microsoft’s Lead Communication Manager against Sony are very heavy. According to the manager, the Japanese company would have lied on some points submitted to the attention of the European antitrust bodies with the aim of hindering the operation.
