Actually, Batgirl, a brand new DC film, should have started on HBO Max last year. In the end, however, those responsible at Warner Bros. decided against publishing it – even though the film was already ready for the premiere. Even then, the company made no secret of the reasons for the hiring. CEO David Zaslav told investors that the quality just didn’t live up to expectations.
Batgirl would have hurt DC
Peter Safran has now also found clear words in an interview with Variety. The DC Studios co-CEO understands Batgirl’s decision: “I’ve seen the film. And there are a lot of talented people in front of and behind the camera. But the film couldn’t be released – that happens sometimes. […] I really think that [David] Zaslav and the team made a bold decision to cancel the film because it would have hurt DC. It would have harmed all the people involved,” said Peter Safran in an interview.

Second chance for Batgirl?
Batgirl will definitely not be released again – those responsible at Warner Bros. have now made that more than clear. According to Safran, who will take care of the new DCU together with James Gunn, Batgirl is very likely to appear. Sooner or later, Barbara Gordon is bound to show up here. However, it is still unclear whether actress Leslie Grace will slip into the Batgirl role again.
