In a few weeks, the action game “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Of course, the makers of the title want to celebrate this special event.
With the lightning fast action game „Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance“ Konami released a spin-off of its legendary stealth series and focused on cyber ninja raiden. Now the 10th anniversary of the title is imminent, which should be properly celebrated in a few weeks.
PlatinumGames wants to celebrate its 10th anniversary
This was announced yesterday by developer studio PlatinumGames (“Bayonetta”) on its in-house Twitter-Account. There it says briefly and succinctly that those responsible want to celebrate the 10th anniversary since the publication of the title on February 21, 2023. Further details about the celebration of the game are still pending. In line with the announcement, a new artwork was published with the post, showing the protagonist Raiden.
The action game was officially announced at E3 2009, then still under the title “Metal Gear Solid: Rising”. Although Hideo Kojima was involved in the project, he left the work primarily to a young and rather inexperienced team. A mistake, as it turned out over time, because production stalled more and more. Kojima later stopped work on the title, but the concept was not to be scrapped.
Instead, the “Metal Gear Solid” inventor went looking for an external developer studio to continue working on the title. Ultimately, PlatinumGames won the bid and the game was re-announced in 2011 as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Kojima largely gave the team free rein, overseeing only the title’s scenario, story, and cutscenes.

Finally, on February 19, 2013, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A PC version followed almost a year later (via Steam). At Metacritic, the PS3 version has a critic rating of 80 and a user score of 8.1/10.
Although there were repeated rumors about a successor or a new edition of the action game in the years after the release, this has not been officially confirmed until today.
