02/02/2023 at 14:24 by Thilo Bayer – CD Projekt Red has released the next patch for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen. The 4.01 update aims to improve stability and performance. Among other things, there is a new performance mode for global illumination with ray tracing.
The third patch for the next-gen update for The Witcher 3, which has been awaited for a few days, is here. As CDPR reports, the focus is on stability and performance on the various platforms.
This is in patch 4.01
Two changes are important for PC gamers. There is a new performance mode for global illumination with ray tracing. He favors “stable performance” over “distance display and precision” – in other words, computing power is saved in some places, which should enable a higher frame rate. Tests will have to show what changes the new ray tracing mode. In addition, a bug with the Screen Space Reflections (SSR) has been fixed. Despite activation, this feature was partially inoperable. Anyone who now uses SSR on “high” should notice this through reduced fps.

In addition to console-specific changes, CDPR has also fixed various quest and gameplay errors on all platforms with patch 4.01. Some errors were also found in the localization.
The PCGH editorial team is currently still busy with Dead Space Remake and Forspoken, so it is unlikely that we will see The Witcher 3 (buy now €24.85) in the near future.
