“This style of maps will be new not only for developers. The map in Portugal from season 2 needed more attention to detail to tie it into the overarching story of Overwatch 2. The next maps will follow a similar approach, where there are no bustling cities and obvious character references. These cards will also provide an opportunity to delve into the backstory of the characters, as happened with Mei and the Antarctic Peninsula.
One of the main questions from Overwatch players was why no one helped Mei and her frozen colleagues. The new map will allow us to see a huge part of the story that we haven’t talked about before.”
