Despite the recent internal restructuring operations implemented by the management of Square Enix, the Japanese giant does not yet seem to be ready to celebrate a new stability.
The latest financial results shared by the Japanese company in fact reveal a negative trend for the current fiscal year. The period included between first and third quarter (which ended on December 31, 2022) has in particular recorded net sales for about 255 billion Yen: a figure in 6.6% drop compared to the same period last year. However, the proceeds collected in spring 2022 from the sale of Crystal Dynamics, Square Enix Montréal and Eidos Montréal, now owned – with the related IP – by Embracer Group, have thought of counterbalancing the trend.
On the gaming front, sales of Square Enix titles not belonging to the GAAS genre they fell short of the previous fiscal year’s releases, which included Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, NieR Replicant, and Outriders. A circumstance that has generated a decline in profits equal to approximately 7 billion yen. The trend also involved production MMO or intended for devices mobile. Overall the amount of company revenue generated by video games has dropped by 211.6 billion Yen from last year to the current ones 184.3 billion Yen.
