Some interesting points about the map from the interview with the developers:
The map of the “Object Control” mode, which means it has 3 levels. One of them is a huge underground ice caves, which actively uses vertical geometry and has many passages for flankers. The second level is “pure Object Control”, these are the vast laboratories where Mei and her colleagues once worked. The third level is the coolest, containing the giant Overwatch icebreaker. This ship was sent to help Mei, but it got stuck in the ice. Players will play on the ship itself, they will be able to enter the captain’s cabin and other parts of it. There will be penguins on the map. They can be shot at, but not killed or hurt in any way. Players will find many pieces of lore on the map related to Mei and her research. In the past, players have wondered why Overwatch didn’t try to rescue Mei and her coworkers when they got stuck in a snow storm. The answer is simple: there were attempts, but they failed (this part of the story will be revealed in the level with the icebreaker). According to Overwatch 2’s narrative designer, players will find clues to what Mei and her colleagues were trying to find in Antarctica. “Also, you may find some secrets there,” he said. “I don’t know, maybe you will find something on the map that will lead to even more interesting events in the further development of the plot.”
