Nothing beats a great video game adventure and action adventures in particular often mix different components into one great experience in the end. In 2023, some offshoots of the genre will again be vying for your favor and we’ll tell you which titles you should keep an eye on.
Horizon: Call of the Mountain (PS5, PSVR2)

Unlike in the previous games in the series, this time you don’t take on the role of Aloy, but that of Ryas. He’s a disgraced soldier with a new mystery to unravel. He sneaks through the Carja kingdom of sunshine and is said to meet some familiar faces along the way.
With the release of the PlayStation VR2 system, Sony is releasing a potential hit title with “Horizon: Call of the Mountain”. The game not only looks stunning graphically, but also promises to experience the amazing world of the game series in a way never seen before. A real highlight should await us here.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

In Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the action specialists of Team Ninja (“Ninja Gaiden”) take you to ancient China in the Three Kingdoms period (208-280 AD), which is being terrorized by sinister demons. With the help of various devastating sword attacks you have to fight back the dark forces.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (PS5)

Five years have passed since his battle against the Inquisitors of the Galactic Empire and the one-time Padawan Cal has matured into a true Jedi. Things have not improved in the galaxy since then, however, as the Empire is still expanding its sphere of influence and searching for the last surviving Jedi of Order 66. Now Cal must face a new threat that will stretch him to the limit.
Electronic Arts continues the story of its 2019 action-adventure hit with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Since then, main character Cal has learned all sorts of new tricks. Now he can, for example, fight with two lightsabers at the same time and use new power abilities. Star saga fans can look forward to another exciting adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (PS5)

Alien villain Braniac has taken control of the world’s mightiest heroes and now the Justice League spreads fear and terror around Superman, Batman and Flash. To eliminate the superheroes, Task Force X is sent out, which includes master marksman Deadshot and the Joker’s former lover and ex-psychiatrist Harley Quinn. Can they really do their job successfully?
With its action-adventure “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League”, developer studio Rocksteady returns to its “Batman: Arkham” universe. Each member of the team of four should have their own move set and thus play in a unique way. If you don’t want to play with the AI, you can play with up to three other players in online co-op mode. Not only comic fans should keep a closer eye on the title.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage (PS4, PS5)

Before he went to England to teach other assassins there, he was just a simple street thief himself: Basim. He is plagued by horrific visions of the future, but encounters with members of an ancient secret society will change everything for him. He joins the group to pursue their creed and, over time, mature into a true master assassin searching for his destiny.
With “Assassin’s Creed Mirage”, Ubisoft wants to take its successful series back to its roots and combine the best elements of its predecessors. In addition, the game world will be smaller this time and the RPG elements of the previous three main parts of the series will be omitted. Instead of an action RPG, a story-focused action-adventure awaits you here, which should come up with the largest arsenal of tools of all previous titles of the brand, opening up a wide range of options.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name! (PS4, PS5)

The focus of the story is Kiryu, who long-time fans of the “Yakuza” games should know from the beginning of the series. It is intended to open up a new perspective on the events that took place between the predecessor “Yakuza 6” and the successor “Yakuza 8” planned for 2024.
Too many details about “Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name!” are not yet known, but the title should not be as extensive as a main branch of the series. In addition, fans of the brand can look forward to a remake of the original of the same name, which was only released in Japan in 2014, with “Like A Dragon: Ishin!” this year. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5)

The fight against the Sinister Six is over and New York has recovered from the attacks of the various super villains. The peace doesn’t last long, however, as new villains are already gathering in the shadows, awaiting their chance to take down Spider-Man. Or rather the two Spider-Men, after all, Peter Parker now has his friend and Spidey protégé Miles Morales at his side to take on Kraven, Venom & Co.
After Insomiac Games had huge hits with the two predecessors, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” is certainly one of the most anticipated titles of the year for many PlayStation fans. Too many details are not yet known, but the development team should be confident that the action-adventure and thus one of the biggest highlights of the gaming year can be released exclusively for PlayStation 5 in autumn 2023.
