As Gran Turismo 7 approaches its first birthday, developers at Polyphony Digital begin work on the next game. Is this already “Gran Turismo 8”?
Gran Turismo 7 has been on the market for almost a year and continues to be supported with new content. But the next production in the series also seems to be in the bag.
Because Polyphony Digital is starting work on the next “Gran Turismo” game, as Chief Executive Officer Kazunori Yamauchi revealed in an interview.
In conversation with the Japanese website Game.Watch.Impress Kazunori Yamauchi was asked what plans he has for the future development of the “Gran Turismo” series.
He then emphasized: “Actually, we already have a topic. We’re just starting work on the next game, but I can’t talk about it just yet. It’s a shame I can’t talk much about it.”
First birthday in March
On March 4th, “Gran Turismo 7” is celebrating its first birthday. But when you consider how long it takes for a video game from the “Gran Turismo” series to be developed and launched with the necessary standard of quality and polish, the assumption arises that the new title is unlikely to be in this year or the next year will reach the trade.
However, Gran Turismo 7 did not come onto the market in perfect condition either. Technical problems and a general dissatisfaction with the credit allocation combined with high prices for certain vehicles spoiled the initial fun of the game.
It is unclear whether the new game is actually “Gran Turismo 8” or Polyphony Digital is working on an unnumbered part such as “Gran Turismo Sport”.
VR version of GT7 will be released in February
While “Gran Turismo 8” – or whatever the title may be called – is still a year or two away, the next release is imminent: “Gran Turismo 7” will be updated with the launch of PlayStation VR2 made compatible with the headset and should become a much more intense experience in virtual reality.
Almost all Gran Turismo 7 modes are supported by PSVR2. There is only one exception: In virtual reality, the split-screen mode has to be dispensed with, which, however, would not make much sense there either.
