A few days ago we reported that the streaming giant Netflix wants to take action against sharing accounts with several people with new rules. There should be draconian rules for Netflix users who don’t all live under one roof: Because then an additional monthly fee will be charged and you have to log in once a month from a previously defined location. So if you’re on vacation or have moved away from home for more than a month, but you still share your Netflix subscription with your parents, these rules will soon require you to take out a separate subscription. All of these regulations were recently available in a help article on the official Netflix site. However, this help article is no longer available. Netflix said it was a bug. But is that really true or is there more to it?
Account sharing (for the time being) still allowed
Netflix is rowing back: shortly after the announcement of the measures that threaten users if they do not log into their home network at least every 31 days, the streaming service reports that it was a system error. The original help page stated that account sharing isn’t going to be as easy as it is right now.
It is currently sufficient to give your friends or family the Netflix password so that they can log in from anywhere. The help page read briefly that this is exactly what the new regulations are intended to prevent. Accordingly, a user would have to log into a previously defined home network every 31 days in order to continue to be able to stream films and series.
But that would also mean that, for example, a long vacation trip would no longer be possible if you had to register with Netflix at home every month. Likewise, all those who share a subscription but live in different cities or countries would have problems. The corresponding help page on the Netflix website has now been replaced by an old version, but there is no reference to the changes.
Is it really just a system error on the part of Netflix?
With the renewed change to the help page, a blocking of shared accounts should be off the table for the time being. Originally, the article also said they would use IP addresses, device IDs, or similar account activity to find out if a subscription is being shared outside of the main site. These plans are also likely to be temporarily put on hold.
The emphasis is on “temporarily”. Because the planned subscription changes at Netflix are certainly not off the table. The streaming giant has long been experimenting with new ways to maximize its profits. The new advertising subscription for a lower introductory price was only recently launched.

Great Netflix feature is now only available in the expensive premium tariff
Netflix continues to tighten the thumbscrews for streaming customers: A great feature is being removed for subscribers to normal tariffs.
It remains to be seen whether the draconian measures that could be read briefly on the help page were really just a system error. Maybe Netflix is also experimenting with what you can expect from customers and then reacting to the criticism. It is very likely that a restriction of account sharing will come sooner or later. Nevertheless, the streaming giant continues to be extremely successful with its specially produced series, so it shouldn’t fail because of the content.
