Sony released its financial results for the last quarter of 2022 that prove that its PS5 console is “alive and in good health”. In fact, it has such vitality that it has just set a new sales record. From October to December 2022, 7.1 million units of this latest generation console were sold.
This is a significant increase in sales, more specifically this is an increase of 82%, compared to the same period of the previous year. In numbers, from October to December 2021, the Japanese giant sold only 3.9 million units.
As a result of this increase in console sales, gaming services and networks also recorded a 53% increase in just three months. Software sales account for 30% of this figure, while network services account for 20%, with the remaining 3% coming from accessories, such as the PlayStation VR headset.

Sony’s chief financial officer, Hiroki Totoki, said, speaking to Reuters, that “several measures we have applied on both the hardware and software sides are bearing fruit. I believe we are generating positive momentum to accelerate growth in our game operations.”
The head of the financial area also advanced that the risks associated with the component supply chain have not yet been completely resolved. But still, the company managed to substantially increase the production of the high-end game console.
