Microsoft decided to put into practice the unique capabilities of the ChatGPT AI bot by integrating it into its Bing search service – for this, the company approached the OpenAI that developed it. Luckily, Bing users were able to briefly see what the search for the new format could be like.

A student named Owen Yin installed Bing as the home page for the Microsoft Edge browser, and at some point the updated interface loaded – the guy did not take any action to open the search in the new format, and after a couple of minutes the service returned to the traditional interface, writes The Verge.
Mr. Yin said that this couple of minutes was enough for him to briefly test the possibilities of search with the participation of AI: the bot not only answers questions, but also asks them in a conversational manner. In addition, the updated Bing cites sources, and this is important: language models like ChatGPT do not tell where the data is taken from, which means that the information received from them cannot be considered reliable. Other users of the platform also spoke about the new search format from Microsoft – they also saw this interface for no longer than a couple of minutes.

A new “Chat” option appeared next to the standard search bar, when opened, the system welcomed users of “a new AI-powered response engine.” Bing suggested “Ask the tough questions,” “Get better answers,” and “Get creative inspiration,” but warned that the platform is powered by artificial intelligence, so “surprises and bugs” are possible.
