With Back 4 Blood, a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead was released in October 2021. We also looked at the co-op shooter back then and compared it to the second Left 4 Dead title. And with the recent release of a new expansion for the game, River of Blood, development on the title is now complete. This is not a report from an insider, but an official statement from the teams. Turtle Rock published a post on February 2nd announcing the news.
New project at Turtle Rock
“Turtle Rock Studios is actually quite small for a studio that makes AAA games,” the team said in a statement. “We don’t have enough people on board to continue working on Back 4 Blood (buy now €302.83 / €16.99) content while we make another game – yes, another game! So it’s for time to roll up our sleeves, go back to the lab and work on the next big thing.”
However, that does not mean that fans of the title have to look completely into the tube. Finally, the game’s servers will continue to operate. It is currently unclear which project will follow Back 4 Blood. It should be interesting in this context that the studio was bought by the tech giant Tencent in December 2021. It remains to be seen when and how Turtle Rock Studios will tell us more about the next title.

From Left 4 Dead and Back 4 Blood
The ratings for the spiritual successor were relatively positive at the time. At the same time, it has become very quiet about a possible third part for Left 4 Dead. At least the multiplayer of the second part has not been indicated in Germany for almost two years. Therefore, even without an official third part, there are some opportunities for exciting co-op evenings.
