Pugstorm has announced the Quality of Love update for Core Keeper, which, as the name suggests, is dedicated to Valentine’s Day. The update will bring changes to the game’s light engine, as well as new nice content to celebrate this most romantic holiday.
In a Steam post, Pugstorm says that Quality of Love won’t reach the same scale as the Desert of Beginnings or Sunken Sea updates, but it will bring some new additions and tweaks. The first of these relates to the lighting and rendering engines of Core Keeper.
This is pretty technical stuff, but Pugstorm says it’s rewritten its graphics pipeline, ditching Unity’s built-in rendering pipeline because the latter “just didn’t support” the features and capabilities the studio had in mind. According to the developers, this means that Core Keeper now “looks a lot better” and can perform a lot better.
As for the new Valentine’s Day-inspired features, the dungeon will now be adorned with an eye-catching cherry blossom carpet, and you’ll find plenty of Valentine’s Day-themed items like love letters and gifts scattered around the world. Pugstorm is also promising “very cute cosmetics and gear” as well as a new seasonal variation for the merchant, which will also have new items to sell.
Another important feature added in the Core Keeper Quality of Love update is musical instruments. You can now express yourself using a variety of instruments, including harps, cellos and flutes, and use the sheet music you find around the world to “automatically play looped melodies”, some of which will be recognizable from other indie games. Pugstorm says there’s a lot more to come.
The Core Keeper Quality of Love update releases on February 8th, with the Valentine’s Seasonal Event running until February 28th. Some content will remain available after the event, although Pugstorm did not specify which content it has.
