Ahead of Dark and Darker’s next playtest, developer Ironmace has confirmed the availability of a new solo dungeon.
The release of Ironmace’s promising PvPvE fantasy adventure Dark and Darker is still a long way off, as the game is not expected to be released until Q4 2023 at the earliest. But the good news is that soon you will have another chance to play the game, as the next playtest will take place during the Steam Next Fest, which starts on February 6th.
In the game, you have to dive into a dark dungeon in groups of up to three people, fighting monsters and collecting valuable loot. While the focus is usually on exploring with others, part of the upcoming playtest is devoted to solo playthrough. In an interview with Onepeg, the developer revealed that the new dungeon containing the recently introduced Cave Troll boss will be a solo run dungeon.
This may seem odd for a game made for multiplayer, but it seems to be some sort of Ironmace experiment to provide an entry point for players who might be put off by the multiplayer aspect at first.
Dark and Darker’s third playtest took place in December and proved popular with players, peaking at 52,576 concurrent players. The developer seemed taken aback by the game’s popularity, tweeting:
What the hell is going on?! Today we have over 50,000 concurrent players. Huge thanks to our amazing community!
Ahead of the game’s launch, those numbers could be even higher during next week’s playtest.
