Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired the film rights to Stephen King’s Billy Summers, Deadline reports. Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way joined the project.
A film adaptation was announced in February 2022. JJ Abrams’ company, Bad Robot, took over. The original plan was to turn “Billy Summers” into a mini-series, however, according to the latest reports, the producers decided to change course.
It is believed that Abrams can act as the director of the film, and DiCaprio – to play the main role. However, official decisions on these issues have not yet been made.
The screenplay is being adapted by Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, director and producer of Blood Diamond, respectively. In the center of the plot is a hired killer who takes on the last case before retiring. He needs to come to a quiet town and pretend to be an aspiring writer, but the situation gets out of control.
