Marvel’s Midnight Suns lets you live out your wildest superhero fantasies – if living in a haunted frat house with 12 other heroes is your wildest superhero fantasy, of course. Basically, it’s a Persona in the Marvel Universe, a Persona with good tactical combat. You have to communicate, make friends and stop the universal evil along with the heroes from the “Avengers”, “X-Men” and others who do not belong to any team. Trying to build relationships with 12 other people is hard enough, but it looks like Firaxis originally planned to add even more.
With the release of the first DLC for the game, Deadpool brought the total number of inhabitants of the Abbey to 15 – counting only those who are actually alive. But it seems that at some point the developers planned that the initial list of heroes would consist of 25 people.
In an interview, game designer Jake Solomon said:
I could argue for maybe 50 or 60 heroes. It would be very interesting for me to tell their stories and make them repel each other. My executive producer showed me our original lineup for the game. It had about 25 characters. And it was funny. He said, “We’ll never be able to make that many heroes and stuff.”
Of course, the question is, what other heroes will Marvel Firaxis add to the Midnight Suns roster? The Punisher seems like a good option, but Solomon noted that Blade was already filling a role that Frank Castle could fill, so the idea was scrapped. However, he did mention a certain X-Man who could be a good fit for the role – none other than Channing Tatum himself, Gambit.
So yeah, and the reason we thought about Gambit and looked at it very seriously is because it can be used in a supernatural game as well as a card game… it just fits. Who knows, maybe in the future we will see a neat card trick.
