This week, Sony offered gamers the chance to download the new PlayStation 5 beta firmware. Officially confirmed fixes include Discord voice chat integration, library improvements, easier PS4 to PS5 data transfer, a new “Join Game” icon in group chats, and an expansion Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for 1440p displays. But, apparently, that’s not all.
Players who have already had the opportunity to test the beta firmware have noticed that the Japanese company has also silently addressed screen flickering issues that occur when using VRR on 120Hz (or higher) IPS monitors due to the physical limitations of the aforementioned panels. The graphic glitch has completely disappeared from games that suffered from it, such as The Last of Us Part I and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. Below you will find a list of games that have experienced the defect and should now work properly. It was compiled with the official support of Gigabyte, the company behind monitors such as the AORUS FI32U, Gigabyte M32U, and Gigabyte M28U, all of which suffer from this problem.
Astro’s Playroom
Call of Duty: Vanguard
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Deathloop
Destiny 2
Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
DIRT 5
Godfall
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Resident Evil Village
The Last of Us Part I
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Tribes of Midgard
There are many players on Reddit who confirm the flicker resolution in the above games, but there could be more. If you are one of those who are experiencing graphics issues, you just have to wait for the launch of the new PlayStation 5 firmware in the public segment. It usually takes several weeks from the publication of a beta version to the actual availability for everyone.
