Diablo fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the Diablo 4 open beta – even more since the developers announced the final release date of their A-RPG at the Game Awards 2022. We still have to wait almost four months before we can face off against the hordes of hell again, but before that there will definitely be an open beta phase.
Announcing the beta at the IGN Fan Fest?
Not much was known about the latter, apart from information on the official Diablo 4 website (buy now). It is noted there that pre-orderers receive guaranteed access to the beta and that it should last at least two days. When exactly the test phase will start is still unclear.
But that could change shortly. As the well-known insider Tom Henderson reports on his website Insider Gaming, the general manager for Diablo at Blizzard, Rod Fergusson, made a clear indication in a tweet. When asked by a fan if Fergusson had anything to say about the Diablo 4 beta, he replied, “Soon! If only we had something to announce at some sort of gaming moment this month…”

With this tweet, Fergusson is clearly alluding to the IGN Fan Fest 2023, a gaming event taking place on February 17th and 18th, 2023. So it is quite conceivable that the Diablo developers will announce the start of the Diablo 4 beta on this date – and who knows, maybe the beta will also start directly on this date. In any case, the lead time of almost four months before release would be an appropriate time window.
