Released yesterday, February 2, patch 4.01 for an improved version of the fantasy action role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt promised to improve performance. At least on PC, the update didn’t do its job, and in some cases even made it worse.

According to Steam users with a variety of PC configurations, in most cases, performance after the update has become noticeably worse (up to 50%), while rare lucky ones report only a slight increase.
For a Wccftech journalist, for example, on a PC with a Core i7-10700, RTX 3070 and 16 GB of RAM, the game produced in Toussaint (4K, DLSS in quality mode, without ray tracing) from 60 to 90 fps before the patch, and after it it didn’t reaches up to 50 frames / s.
Judging by the video from the blogger Lootward (Ryzen 5 5600X, RTX 3070), The Witcher 3 received the biggest performance hit from the patch when playing without ray tracing, while with ray tracing the frame rate almost did not change.
The advanced version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released on December 14, 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. How update 4.01 affected the performance of the console versions (they were also promised performance improvements) is still unclear.
