Famous Dutch sportswoman Be Femke set a world record in the 500-meter race.
Femke Bol ran the 500m in 1:05.63 in Boston, USA at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, which is part of the World Indoor Tour 2023 series.
Previously, the world record was held by the Czech athlete Tatiana Kochembova, who in 1984 ran the 500-meter race in 1:05.9 (time was recorded manually). The best indoor time was Olesya Krasnomovets from Russia (1:06.31), shown in 2006.
The Netherlands’ Femke Bol specializes in the 400 hurdles and is a 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, two-time World Cup 2022 silver medalist, three-time European 2022 champion, two-time European 2021 indoor champion.
Femke Bol: “The goal was to break 1:06 and set a world record, but I thought I was behind the pace of WR throughout the race. I didn’t know I was going for a record until I saw the clock at the finish line.”
