Die Dungeon-Crawler-Serie Class of Heroes never made it to Europe, the strategy RPG spin-off based on it is faring better now. No prior knowledge is required to go into battle with Alex: The youngster is looking for his father, but he is not a great warrior himself – it is fortunate that the students at the Adventure Academy are actively helping him.
So you dare on missions that consist of small square fields composed of environments and usually have to reach the end there within a (generous) time limit. Alex himself should avoid contact with enemies and monsters as much as possible, so you position up to six fellow combatants around him. Then the next waypoint will be marked and your squad will promptly set off step by step in real time. You then only have a limited direct influence on the action of your helpers, but you can level up their levels and also trigger spells, while some actions such as changing formations pause the action. This is conceptually original, but in practice it is unfortunately characterized by a lack of clarity: In the muddle, it is difficult to keep an eye on the bustling friends and enemies and to give them targeted support, which is also due to fiddly controls, overloaded screen displays and the inflexible camera .
Opinion & Rating
Ulrich Steppberger says: The hustle and bustle during the missions reminds me a bit Pikmin – if they would act stubbornly. The fact that I, as the actual hero, should remain passive and let my fellow combatants do their thing has its charm, especially since the cute look is nice to look at. But for a big conversation I lack grip and noticeable influence, especially since many small inconsistencies around the operation are annoying. Why is relevant character info hidden in submenus during battles and most importantly, why can’t I rotate the camera, making interactions unnecessarily awkward?
Lively J-RPG with real-time strategy battles that suffer from hectic and confusing.
