February 7th, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. by Karsten Scholz – Those responsible at Activision Blizzard have published the financial report for the fourth quarter of the 2022 financial year. The company was able to continue the positive trend and is pleased with record results.
The long low seems to have been overcome for the time being. After a positive result in the third quarter of fiscal 2022, Activision Blizzard not only continued the trend in the fourth quarter, but even achieved record results. In the following we have summarized the most important findings from the recently published financial report.

Successful Q4 2022 for Activision Blizzard
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues to post record-breaking profits, most recently surpassing $1 billion in revenue. Compared to Q4 2021, Activision Blizzard was able to generate 60 percent more revenue. It was 97 million in the last quarter monthly active users for Activision games, the number increased to 111 million monthly active users in the fourth quarter. King adds an additional 233 million monthly active users (up from 240 million monthly active users in Q3). Candy Crush continued as the top-grossing game in US app stores for the 22nd consecutive quarter.

Record quarter for Blizzard Entertainment
Blizzard was able to increase sales by 90 percent compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year. Warcraft, Overwatch and Diablo in particular grew strongly compared to the previous year and each achieved over 100 million US dollars in net bookings – i.e. without taxes. Blizzard has never seen such high net bookings in a quarter. Monthly active users grew from 31 million in the third quarter to 45 million users last quarter Extension more positive among the players. The result: Player retention after launch in the west is better than with previous expansions, and there are more players who stay loyal to Dragonflight longer. Overwatch 2’s free2play model delivered the highest number of players and hours played in Overwatch in Q4 -Story. This is also reflected in the players’ expenses. Blizzard has never seen such strong net bookings from Overwatch. Player engagement and investment in Diablo Immortal was stable at the end of the fourth quarter and into the new year. With Diablo 4, Blizzard wants to launch the next successful title in the franchise in June 2023 and provide it with new content and seasons over a long period of time a strong financial year 2023 – thanks to Diablo 4 and the various live services. An alternative solution is to be found for China in the near future.
