Activision has confirmed a full premium release of Call of Duty for this year.
There have been doubts over the past few months as to whether and when the next Call of Duty will be launched.
Reputable sources indicated that the development cycle is changing and that at least in 2023 there will be no standalone premium game on the market.
Publisher Activision confirmed premium content for 2023 in August last year. But the wording raised the question of whether it could be a full-fledged game or just an expansion. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said at the time there would be Year 2 content for the current Modern Warfare II.
In the current conference call, the company again said that it will issue a “full annual premium release.”
Activision said in its statement, “Across the Call of Duty franchise, our teams are working to amplify the success of Q4, with plans for 2023 to include even more compelling live services across all platforms and the next full annual Premium release of the blockbuster series.”
Since publishers usually associate the label “premium” with a $70 price tag, the price for customers at least seems to be fixed. Whether this will be new content and gaming experiences for Modern Warfare II, we will surely find out in the next few months.
