Gigabyte Technology has formalized its Aorus Gen5 10000 SSD lineup with PCI Express 5.0 x4 interface. It is represented by models of the M.2 2280 format with a capacity of 1 and 2 TB. The new products are based on the Phison E26 controller with a DDR4 buffer and 232-layer 3D NAND TLC flash memory chips. The same platform, for example, is used in the recently released CFD Gaming drives.
For the 2-terabyte version of the Gigabyte Aorus Gen5 10000, sequential read speeds of up to 10 GB / s and up to 9.5 GB / s for writing are declared. In the case of a 1 TB model, these figures are 9.5 GB / s and 8.5 GB / s, respectively. Both new items are accompanied by a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty, and the TBW (Total Bytes Written) parameter is 700 or 1400 TB, depending on the capacity of the drive.
It is quite expected that the new SSDs pay for the high speed performance with increased power consumption. In Aorus Gen5 10000, with active use, it reaches 10-11 watts. To cool the drives, a radiator with two heat pipes is provided, however, due to its large dimensions, it turned out to be incompatible with some motherboards. Please visit the Gigabyte website for a list of unsupported models.
No information has been released regarding the cost of the Gigabyte Aorus Gen5 10000 NVMe drives.
