Most other publishers can only dream of these numbers: Take-Two commented on the success of “GTA 5” and “Red Dead Redemption 2” in the latest annual report.
Take-Two Interactive was able to with “Marvel’s Midnight Suns”. don’t get the resultsthat were expected or hoped for. However, what is probably the publisher’s most popular brand helped to fill this gap. A new sales figure was announced for “GTA 5”, which makes it clear that the open-world action title is still in demand ten years after the original launch.
In its most recent quarterly financial report, Take-Two Interactive announced that as of December 31, 2022, Grand Theft Auto 5 had sold more than 175 million copies worldwide. The entire “GTA” series, which was launched in 1997, has sold more than 395 million copies.
At the previous count through September 30, 2022, Grand Theft Auto 5 sold a total of 170 million copies, showing just how fast the blockbuster continues to grow – by 5 million in the holiday quarter.
GTA 5 originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. The following year, the Rockstar game was released for PS4 and Xbox One. A PC version followed in early 2015 before the title hit the current PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles almost a year ago.

Meanwhile, the Western epic Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to surpass the 50 million mark in sales. At the previous count to September 30, 2022, it was 46 million copies. The series has thus reached a total sales figure of 70 million.
The open-world title Red Dead Redemption 2 was originally released in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC and Stadia versions launched in 2019.

“GTA 5” and “Red Dead Redemption 2” were listed as the most popular games on Steam Deck in November 2022, which also shows the longevity of Rockstar-developed titles. At the same time, however, Take-Two is considering to lay off some of the publisher’s employees.
