People with an LG TV may have already noticed: an update has been launched for WebOS, the operating system of the televisions.
Do you have a smart TV from the LG brand at home? Then your TV can do a little more after an update than before. The company announces that it will make apps for Apple TV and Apple Music available on its televisions with WebOS, in no fewer than 100 different countries. The same applies to HomeKit and AirPlay, which will also be active on your LG TV after an update.
Apple customers with an LG TV no longer need to turn on their Apple TV to enjoy AirPlay or Apple TV+. By integrating the applications into the WebOS platform, LG ensures that the TVs are much more user-friendly.
On the other hand, it also means that many people now have access to Apple TV, a service that they previously could not access – either because there is no Apple TV in the house, or no iPhone to activate it. Now Apple’s streaming service has its own button on the home screen of your television, so you no longer need any additional equipment.
AirPlay en HomeKit in WebOS
Perhaps more convenient is the fact that the televisions will also support AirPlay. So you already have an Apple device, but would like to watch that video on the bigger screen? Now you can do that at the touch of a button. That way you don’t even need your TV remote control to play music or to set up a series.
In addition, the HomeKit integration ensures that you can also ignore the remote control when you want to switch the television on or off. In other words, you will soon be able to operate your LG television with your iPhone or iPad. Thanks to HomeKit, Siri will also be compatible with WebOS televisions.
With this development, it seems that Apple is moving towards other platforms. Two weeks ago, the Apple TV and Music app already appeared in the Microsoft Store.
