The army of The Last of Us fans is growing with each new episode – the 4th episode, despite the broadcast of the 2023 Grammy Music Awards (which took the lion’s share of the audience), again recorded record views.
According to Variety, the show’s final episode was watched by 7.5 million viewers, up 17% from Sunday’s viewership of the third episode, which focuses on the dramatic relationship between prepper Bill (Nick Offerman) and his partner Frank (Murray Bartlett).
The episode, titled “Please Hold My Hand”, centers again on Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsay) who, while trying to get to Wyoming, become trapped in “liberated” Kansas City.
On February 5, “The Last of Us” had to compete with another popular show – the same night, the Grammy 2023 Music Awards were telecast, which gathered 12.4 million viewers at the screens. Last week, the series competed for viewership with the AFC Championship on the East Coast.

Compared to the debut series, the views of the 4th episode increased by 60%. These are excellent figures for the show: for example, “House of the Dragon”, the long-awaited prequel to “Game of Thrones” with Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke in the lead roles, recorded a slight decrease in viewership already in the third episode.
The good news for fans of the series is that The Last of Us episode 5 is set to air two days early on February 10 (due to Sunday’s Super Bowl broadcast).
The Last of Us Episode 5 Trailer
Based on the popular 2013 PlayStation game of the same name, The Last of Us is set 20 years after modern civilization was nearly wiped out by a mutation in the Cordyceps fungus. Joel, a smuggler, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie, who appears to be immune to infection and could help develop a cure, out of the quarantine zone and into a research facility. The series is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
The first season spans nine episodes, each 46 to 81 minutes long. The episodes will be released weekly, and the final one will air on March 12.
