Reverse wireless charging on iPhones is still not coming soon at Apple. But the manufacturer is said to be working on its own reverse charging solution and planning to integrate MagSafe technology into it.
Apple is reportedly testing more advanced two-way or reverse charging for iPhones It’s unclear if or when this feature will debut on an iPhone
On Android smartphones, reverse charging has been around for several years. This function, which allows you to recharge your headphones or your connected watch by placing them on your Samsung or Xiaomi smartphone, is however still absent from Apple subscribers. However, we think that with the MagSafe technology launched with the iPhone 12 at the time, Apple could very well offer something similar to Qi technology.
What would Apple’s MagSafe reverse wireless charging look like?
According to 9to5Mac’s sources, Apple is developing its custom and more advanced reverse wireless charging feature for iPhones. They are said to be in the testing phase of several sections of the software, including the management of the power that passes between two devices and the heat dissipation as well as the user interface.
Apple’s version could share standards with the current WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) of which Qi technology is also a part. It was previously confirmed that the upcoming Qi2 standard takes advantage of Apple’s MagSafe technology. This would allow the magnetic power profile to be used on certified smartphones and tablets, which would improve charging efficiency. Similarly, this technology could well be found on the devices of the Cupertino company.
This technology should have made its debut on the iPhone 14 (Pro), but its deployment has been postponed until now without a definitive release date. However, it’s also possible that Apple will debut it with the iPhone 15 or drop its ambition for such a feature altogether.
Do you think reverse wireless charging is an important function for smartphones?
