The first major story chapter in WoW: Dragonflight ends with a bang. Raszageth, the Storm Eater, is wreaking havoc on the Dragon Isles, driving the Dragon Aspects to despair. After defeating Alexstrasza, the Storm Eater stormed into Thaldraszus. Their destination was the Vault of Incarnations, an ancient titan fortress where other proto-dragon incarnations and their primalist minions were imprisoned for millennia. Our heroes manage to stop Raszageth. But the friends about our victory were short-lived. For with her dying breath, the Storm Eater freed ancient foes of the dragons who were after the aspects and the work of the titans.
New story campaign in WoW Dragonflight
Raszageth was the first incarnation to break out of her dungeon at the beginning of Dragonflight. In the Vault of Incarnations, we learn that she was the youngest, and thus weakest, of the four proto-drake incarnations. There are three other powerful proto-drakes who have bonded their bodies and souls to the ferocious elements. Their names are Vyranoth the Frostheart, Fyrakk the Blazing, and the greatest among them – Iridikron the Stonescaled.

Vyranoth, Fyrakk and Iridikron are free. The proto-drake trio is likely the next big threat our heroes will have to fight back in Patch 10.1. On the test server for WoW Patch 10.0.7 there are already first indications that the dragon aspects are gathering their forces for the coming battle against the three powerful proto-dragon incarnations. The dataminers have also found out the name of the next story chapter. The campaign is called “Embers of Nelhtarion”.

The many Earth Wardens in World of Warcraft
So part of the story will likely revolve around Neltharion and his past as an aspect of Earth. There was already data from maps in the alpha phase of WoW: Dragonflight on which numerous caves under the Dragon Islands were listed. In any case, there is a widely ramified cave system under the Dragon Isles, reminiscent of Deepholm, the realm of Therazane. As a reminder, Therazane is one of the four elemental lords and chief of the stone and earth elementals in Azeroth. Some exciting fan theories have been circulating around the web since the launch of Dragonflight, involving Neltharion’s heirs and the return of the Stonemother.
World of Warcraft (buy now) lore fans suspect that the area is an ancient Neltharion dragon lair. Access to it could actually be on the Forbidden Island. It could also tie in with the numerous ruins on the Forbidden Island where Neltharion put the Dracthyr to sleep long ago. So it could be that the new story chapter “Embers of Neltharion” starts there and we finally learn more about Neltharion’s research. There may even be new information on the mysterious titan artifact briefly seen on the arm of Neltharion in the Dragonflight: Legacys animated series. Some players speculate that we will find more uncorrupted dragon eggs in the cave system under the island, which could play a role in the fight for the Obsidian Throne.

The rise of Iridikron
Blizzard could also tie directly to the end of the Vault of Incarnations on the Forbidden Island. Raszageth managed to free her siblings from the Titan prison. We know little about the three proto-dragon incarnations. However, dragon queen Alexstrasza fears Iridikron the most. He is the most powerful incarnation and is nicknamed “the stone-scaled”. Alexstrasza describes Iridikron as a vicious monster who long ago allied with dark forces.

His nickname and form reflect Iridikron’s connection to Earth. This makes him one of the hottest candidates for the role of the main villain in Patch 10.1. Although we still know so little about Iridikron, there seem to be certain parallels between its history and Neltharion’s story. Both are connected to the element of earth and both fell victim to dark forces. That’s why we suspect both were once rivals. And then there’s the story of the Dracthyr, which is still ongoing. So the Forbidden Island holds many exciting puzzles that will keep our heroes busy in Dragonflight.
