The global launch event for the Xiaomi 13 will take place on February 26. The smartphone was previously launched in China.
Many Chinese manufacturers now follow the same strategy: first they launch a new, high-end device in their home market, before organizing an international launch. We now also see this concept returning to Xiaomi with the Xiaomi 13 that was introduced in China on December 12. The international launch is scheduled for February 26, the manufacturer says known this time. The presentation of the device series can be followed via mi.com and various socials such as Facebook and YouTube.
Specifications Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro
What Xiaomi will say during that event is no longer a secret. The Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are known to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Like the 12 and 12 Pro of the previous generation, they are again high-end smartphones. We also see this when we look at the screens, which have an impressive peak brightness of 1,900 nits. The 6.36-inch screen also has a 120 Hz (fixed) refresh rate, while the 13 Pro can enjoy variable refresh between 1 and 120 Hz.
Larger battery and cameras
The larger body of the 13 Pro also allows for a larger battery, with 4,800 mAh compared to 4,500 mAh on the 13. The difference in charging speed is also striking; with 67 watts on the 13, and 120 watts on the 13 Pro. Both models also have 50 watts of wireless charging via a Xiaomi charger – standard Qi chargers do not work at this charging speed.
The 13 Pro also takes the lead in other areas. It is the only device with a 1-inch sensor, more specifically the Sony IMX989 with a 50.3 MP resolution. The device also offers a 50 MP wide-angle camera and a 50 MP telephoto camera. If we compare this with the regular Xiaomi 13, the differences quickly become clear. The main camera is a 50 MP sensor, but it is not the 1 inch sensor of the 13 Pro. In addition, we see a 12 MP wide-angle camera and another 10 MP telephoto camera.
Higher prices expected
Xiaomi has not yet made any statements about the prices of the 13 and 13 Pro. The brand did present its Chinese prices in December. They already increased by 300 Chinese Yuan over the 12 and 12 Pro. Although that does not confirm that the 13 series will also become more expensive in Europe, you can count on it. Parts that put into smartphones have become considerably more expensive in the past year. In addition, we also see rising costs as an important cause of increased smartphone prices.
